| Hey I Was Just Wondering Cause Im Worried About The Humidity Levels In My Tank. I Usually Spray It About 4 to 5 Times A Day But THat Can Be A Real Pain. Does It Really Matter If The Tank Dries Up All THe Way? I Keep a Towel Over The Lid TO Help But Within AN HOur Or So It Always Dries Up. And Suggestions?

| I use saran wrap (sp?). I don't cover the whole thing because you need are flow and you need to watch for molt or fungus. I haven't had a problem with it yet but with limited air circulation it will be more vulnerable. |

| Spraying does almost NOTHING to raise humidity -- just try dumping water on the substrate periodically. Not enough to make it soupy, but if you've got coco fiber or peat it will absorb a lot of water and keep things humid. _________________ If your emperor scorpion stops eating, don't panic. | My reviews | My Bug Pictures | My blog Be nice -- you were a noob once, too "Never ask an engineer to explain something, because he will."

| i was wondering - could you use compost and potting soil, even if it has stuff in it to help the plants grow? could they affect the scorp in any way? |

| Yeah Next Time I Clean The Tank And Inspect MY Scorpions Im GOnna Put A False BOttom. The Only Reason I Didnt Want TO Was Cause Its A 70 Gallon Tank And Its Gonna Need ALOT Of Rocks. I Tried Dumping Water And It Didnt Work That Good On The Soil But It Did Stay A Little Damp For Like 4 Hours So IT Kinda Did Work. BTW I Keep 2 Males And A Female In This 70 Gal Tank. Is That Risky? The Males Used TO Fight But Now They Seem To Do Well Together They Even Hide In The Same Place. |

| Even if it's not a perfect false bottom it'll still work. Thats a lot of space for just scorpions. |

| I don't know about the false bottom really sometimes just because in personal experience so far i have my scorps burrowing all the way down to it and i have been using 8 inches of substrate. It could just be that my guy and gal love to burrow but it makes me nervous them being right on the rocks with all that cold water underneath them. Also the size of your tank could cause huge humidity problems plus the fact that emps only need about 5 gallons long to live each so if your going to run a tank that size you may want a few more emps in there and atleast one more heat source to cause condensation which would result in humidity rise. Try to make sure the soil is damp aswell before placing it in there for a good starting point of moisture. |

| We keep ours on EcoEarth, spray daily / every couple of days, and if it starts to dry out we just pour water onto it |

| Something I have been meaning to try is the false bottoms meant for aquariums. You know the plastic ones that the rocks go on. You can put a tube in the corners. That are originally meant for air injection. You could just use that as the refiller.
I'm not sure how this would really work because it wouldn't saturate the soil unless you overfill it but there would always be water which would produce humidity.
Here is a pic.

| I Keep A 75 Watt Heat Lamp On Top And Under One Of The Hides I Have A Heat Rock But Covered With The Soil So It Kinda Works As A heating Pad. |

| Heat rocks usually get too hot to be safe, and keeping anything hot under the soil can end with a scorpion burrowing TOWARDS it to get away from heat (in nature, down = cooler). _________________ If your emperor scorpion stops eating, don't panic. | My reviews | My Bug Pictures | My blog Be nice -- you were a noob once, too "Never ask an engineer to explain something, because he will."
